Choosing a Name and Registering a Domain

Having the perfect domain name is a very important first step. The right domain name can instill a trust in your customers or visitors, on the other hand, the wrong domain name can cause your visitors not to be interested in the content of your website.

Why is Choosing the Right Domain Name So Important?

I say the website starts from a domain name, not from design or from hosting.

Having the perfect domain name is a very important first step.

What is the reason?

First because a domain name can help you build a brand that will stick in the minds of your customers or visitors.

Second, a domain name can help determine your target market.

The question is, Why did I choose that name?

Because I want to put a perception in the minds of visitors that my website is the best place to find hosting references.

The word 'advisor' here tends to be strong, so I added the word 'hosting' after it to clarify my target market.

that's just a small sample. I'll give more examples later. You can be more creative.

And no less important is the third reason.

The domain name in my opinion is the first small piece of the promotion or marketing section, as most visitors will see your website's domain name.

The right domain name can instill a trust in your customers or visitors, on the other hand, the wrong domain name can cause your visitors not to be interested in the content of your website.

How to Find the Perfect Domain Name

In this chapter, I will explain how to do it step by step, along with what tips and tools you can use to find the perfect domain name for your website.
Simple Rules In Domain Name Selection

Before thinking about a domain name, I highly recommend that you pay attention to these four points, as a general rule.

Use the .COM! Extension

Most people still are, and probably will always think of .com as part of the domain name.

This fact can be proven. When someone does a search on a search engine like Google, people tend to trust the .com extension more.

Imagine that you are looking for a shoe online. Then in Google search results you see tokosepatu.com and tokosepatu.net. Which will you click first?

This first point is a suggestion. You may consider it. Given that currently there are many extensions that will make people's trust stronger, for example, such as the use of .co.id or .id extensions.

Avoid trademarks or trademarks

Be careful when choosing a domain name, do not violate the copyrights of others.

For example, if you want to create a Samsung mobile phone review website, you might be tempted to create a domain name like SamsungReview.com.

It probably won't be a problem at first, but it will happen later as your website is up and running. There will be a visitor or even a Samsung inside person who will alert you.

You could get in a lawsuit or something.

So my advice is better avoid the same name as someone else's trademark. Be careful when choosing a domain name, don't violate someone else's copyright.

So my advice is better avoid the same name with someone else's trademark.

Avoid using hyphens or numbers

I understand very well, sometimes it's difficult to find the domain name we want and it's still available.

Suppose you really want to own the domain name tokosaya.com, but the name is already being used by someone else, then you think about using the name-shop.com.

I said no or better avoid it. Don't give up and keep looking for another name.

There are two reasons for this:

First, domain names with hyphens or numbers are generally disliked by website users and search engines like Google.

Both people will find it difficult when telling you about your website name.

For example, "hi, yesterday I bought clothes that are very good in material and comfortable to wear, I bought them at my shop. Hmm, between the word shop and I have a hyphen. I mean shop ..... the conjunction strip (-) saya.com.

And these tips are closely related to the fourth tips below.

Let's continue reading.

KISS (Keep it Simple)

A word or two is better. For example: kompas.com, tokopedia.com, pegipegi.com, kaskus.co.id, rumah.com, buk Bukalapak.com, tiket.com.

A study by gaebler.co m reports that out of 100,000 websites, the average is having nine characters in their domain name.
But a simple name is not necessarily a good thing, you also have to make sure that the name is easy to pronounce and easy to remember like the example domain name above.

You might be able to do a test like this.

Say your domain name to ten of your friends, then ask them to spell it again. If you find that some of your friends find it difficult to spell, then the name is not easy to pronounce, let alone remember.

Domain Name Choosing Strategy

If you choose a domain name it is like a house. Then the general rules mentioned above are the foundation. Then the strategy in choosing this name will be the roof.

And here are two main strategies for choosing a domain name, you may choose one strategy, it's all up to you, adjust it to your needs.

Brandable Domain
"Brandable" domain is a domain name that is unique, creative and will make a distinctive impression on its users.

Usually this brandable domain is used for users who prioritize brands or brands rather than website keywords (keywords).

Examples are Google.com, Facebook.com, Flickr.com and in the country an example is bhinneka.com (an online computer store).

Discoverable Domain
"Discoverable" here means not EMD as we have known for a long time before.

For those who don't know what EMD is?

EMD stands for Exact Match Keyword. This means that we use our website keywords to become a domain name. For example, we want to create a website for how to make donuts, then the domain name is how to make donuts (EMD).

I said I don't recommend using EMD for two reasons.

First, in September 2012, Matt Cutts tweeted about Google's algorithm, which would reduce EMD domains with low-quality content.
